Reid: Thursday morning cloture vote for Wall St. reform
Democrats hope to invoke cloture on financial regulation on Thursday morning, setting up a final vote Friday or Saturday, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Tuesday.
With Sens. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) announcing their support for the bil, Democrats are all but assured the 60 votes needed to end debate.
After cloture, Republicans could delay a final vote for up to 30 hours if they choose.
“I’m hopeful, confident we’ll get cloture on that, and hopeful Republicans won’t take the 30 hours,” Reid told reporters. “If we do, we’ll have to come back and finish it on Saturday.”
