Biden calls Speaker Pelosi ‘most powerful person’ in politics
Vice President Joe Biden heaped praise upon Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a Monday fundraiser for a House candidate, calling her the “most powerful person in U.S. politics.”
Biden credited Pelosi (D-Calif.) with being the chief person behind the massive healthcare reform law, which passed in March.
“The single most successful, the single most persuasive, the single most strategic leader I have ever worked with is Nancy Pelosi,” he added, according to a pool report. ”Nancy, you are the mother of healthcare.”
Pelosi also was in attendance for the fundraiser. She has received praise from Democrats for moving many big-ticket items such as healthcare, climate change, financial regulation and equal pay legislation.
Biden’s effusive praise came after a meeting between House Democrats and President Obama at the White House last week, when House Democrats voiced their concerns about the White House’s midterm strategy.
House Democrats criticized White House press secretary Robert Gibbs’s claim that there is “no doubt” Republicans could win the House back in November, and asked the White House to do more to boost House candidates.
Biden appeared at an event for Democrat Bryan Lentz, who is running to replace Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.), a candidate for Senate.
Pelosi also offered kind words for the vice president, praising Biden as “the best our country has to offer in terms of leadership for America’s working families.”
