Initial Tea Party caucus roster overestimates membership
Staffers with Michele Bachmann’s office seem to have jumped the gun in officially adding names to the growing roster of members to join her Tea Party Caucus.
According to Bachmann (R-Minn.) spokesman Dave Dziok, the initial list of 29 members shared with members of the press and public included names of members who may have attended the 9 a.m. meeting but did not sign up to join the caucus.
Dziok told The Hill that Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) “attended the meeting, but he doesn’t officially join caucuses.”
Other names in need of
confirmation include Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.). The office confirmed mid-afternoon that Michael Burgess (R-Texas)
and Gary Miller (R-Fla.) had become official members.
“They attended the meeting this morning, but we are still waiting for the official e-mail to our staffer,” Dziok explained, owning up to the confusion on his end.
Dziok said that since the Wednesday morning meeting, however, Reps. Tom Graves (R-Ga.), Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) and Rodney Alexander (R-La.) had joined the group.
