Weiner says Fox News, Breitbart fabricate content weekly
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) Friday night accused Fox News and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart of fabricating their content on a weekly basis.
“There are these fabricated things that the Fox Newses and the Breitbarts of the world generate just about every week,” the outspoken liberal Democrat told MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow. “They got attention with one this week because it was so outrageous. But it goes on just about every single week.”
The Obama administration’s forced resignation Monday of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod was built at least in part off of fervor surrounding a video shown online by Breitbart that supposedly showed Sherrod making racist comments about white farmers.
But the video was edited in such a way to manipulate her comments, and the accusations of racial discrimination against Sherrod — who is black — proved unfounded. President Obama subsequently apologized to Sherrod on Thursday, and the administration has offered to reinstate her as USDA’s director of rural development in Georgia.
