Parties wrangle over Obama's birthday

Democrats and Republicans wrangled Wednesday over President Obama's 49th birthday.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), via the president's political arm, Organizing for America, have used Obama's birthday as a jumping point for political action.

The RNC launched a new website on Wednesday, "Barack's Birthday Cards," featuring 11 mock e-cards that visitors can send to Obama.

The DNC, meanwhile, has launched a "National 'Birth-day of Action'" for supporters of the president that will feature phone banks in all 50 states. First lady Michelle Obama also e-mailed supporters to encourage them to sign an electronic birthday card for her husband.

Mrs. Obama and first daughter Sasha are on a personal trip to Spain during the president's birthday. President Obama will return to his hometown of Chicago this evening.
