Gibbs: 'No conversations about the future'
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs sought to knock down a report Saturday that he is being discussed as the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
Gibbs said that he has had no discussions about another future job after a report was published that he could leave his current post. Citing anonymous sources, Politico reported that Gibbs is being considered as a candidate for DNC chairman for the 2012 presidential election.
"I have not had any conversations about the future – it is a great honor to have the job I have right now and I am very happy doing it," Gibbs tweeted.
The report came amid a staff shakeup at the White House over the past several weeks heading into the November midterm elections, in which Democrats are expected to lose seats in Congress.
White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, the president's top adviser, said that he is leaving the administration on Friday to run for mayor of Chicago.
Three key members of President Obama's economic team -- Lawrence Summers, Peter Orszag and Christina Romer -- have also left or announced they are leaving the administration.
Gibbs, who was one of Obama's closest advisers during the 2008 presidential campaigned, has also been rumored to be in consideration for a senior adviser post in the White House.
