Pelosi says she has 'every anticipation' of remaining Speaker

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday evening that that she has "every anticipation" she'll remain in that position come next year.

The top House Democrat expressed confidence that not only would Democrats retain control of the House, but also that the Democratic caucus would re-elect her as Speaker of the House next year.

"I have every anticipation that we'll come together in a similar format as we are now, with me as speaker of the House," Pelosi said on the "Charlie Rose Show," looking ahead to next year.

The California Democrat's confidence comes as some Democrats facing tough races in conservative or centrist districts have distanced themselves from Pelosi, with a handful pledging to vote against her as Speaker, and a larger number committing to re-elect her.

Pelosi, who like every other House member must win her own re-election battle on Nov. 2, said that representing her San Francisco area district was her "greatest honor." Being elected Speaker by her Democratic colleagues was a "privilege" by contrast, she said.
