SEIU endorses Pelosi for minority leader

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has endorsed Nancy Pelosi for the House's Democratic minority leadership position.

In a statement Monday, SEIU President Mary Kay Henry said working-class families "have a leader and a fighter in Pelosi and will be well served by her as House Democratic Leader."

Henry credited the California Democrat with helping to pass the healthcare reform bill. She also said the Democratic leader played a big part in stopping former President George W. Bush's proposal to privatize Social Security during his second term, and helped pass the financial regulatory reform package last year.

"With Pelosi as House Democratic Leader, working men and women will have a strong partner in the fight for good jobs," Henry said.

SEIU's endorsement of Pelosi adds to her labor backing. Earlier on Monday, the AFL-CIO endorsed Pelosi for House Democratic leader.
