Cantor elected next House Majority Leader
The House Republican Conference unanimously elected Rep. Eric Cantor
(R-Va.) to serve as House majority leader in the 112th Congress.
As expected, Cantor, who ran in an uncontested race, will remain at the No. 2 ranked GOP leadership position.
South Carolina Rep.-elect Tim Scott, one of two African-American newly elected Republican members, gave Cantor's nomination speech. Scott is expected to join Cantor at the leadership table as a freshman-class liaison.
The nomination was seconded by West Virginia Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito.
