Former Rep. Klein joins law firm

Former Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) is joining the law and lobbying firm Holland & Knight as a partner.

The two-term congressman will work in the firm's public policy and regulation group, according to a release. Klein, who lost to Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) in the 2010 midterm elections, plans to split time between the firm's Washington office and its three South Florida offices.

"Klein is a respected leader with a history of cultivating relationships on both sides of the aisle in the Florida Legislature and the Congress," said Rich Gold, Chair of Holland & Knight's Public Policy and Regulation Group. "His experience as a business lawyer and an elected official makes him a valuable resource for the firm's clients as they navigate the changing relationship between business and government."

Klein will advise the group in areas of, "government regulation and compliance in the financial services, healthcare and energy sectors."

Former lawmakers are legally prohibited from registering as federal lobbyist for two years after leaving office, but can join firms without directly lobbying their former colleagues.

Holland & Knight employs former Florida Gov. Bob Martinez (R) and former Rep. Jim Davis (D-Fla.).
