President Obama will deliver the commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on May 18, according to The New London Day.
Obama's speech at the New London, Conn., campus will be his third to a service academy graduating class since becoming president. Obama spoke at the Naval Academy's commencement ceremony in 2009 and at West Point last year.
The announcement comes as the U.S. participates in a military intervention against Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi, in addition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Every commencement is a special occasion, but it is a particularly momentous event when the commander in chief of the armed forces presents the commissions to the Coast Guard's newest ensigns," Coast Guard Academy Superintendent Rear Adm. Scott Burhoe said in a statement to The Day. "It's a great opportunity to showcase the Coast Guard Academy and the city of New London."
Presidents traditionally speak at the commencement of one national
service academy each year.
