Rep. Ryan: I was hoping Ind. governor would jump into 2012 presidential race
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) had hoped Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) would enter the 2012 presidential race.
"I want to see how this field develops. I think other people are going to be getting in the race. I was hoping Mitch Daniels would be getting in the race; he obviously didn’t do that," Ryan said in response to a question about whether he had any interest in running for president during an interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox Business Network on Thursday.
Daniels had considered jumping into the presidential race, but he eventually decided against it.
Some Republicans think Ryan would be a good presidential candidate, though the budget he authored for House Republicans has become a campaign weapon for Democrats. They have targeted Ryan's proposed Medicare reforms, which would require people 55 and younger to buy their own health insurance on the private market. The insurance would be subsidized by the government.
