President Obama's reelection campaign on Friday announced the hiring of Katherine Archuleta as national political director.

Archuleta serves as chief of staff to Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and formerly worked as an aide to former Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, helping to coordinate the 2008 Democratic National Convention in the Mile High City.

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt confirmed Archuleta's hiring in a tweet.

Her presence on the campaign team provides a key link to Colorado, an important swing state that backed Obama in 2008 but gave its electoral votes to President Bush in 2004.

Archuleta will also help with Latino outreach and communication with elected officials and groups, according to The Denver Post.

The president's campaign team is gradually beginning to take shape. The staff already includes several veterans of Obama's successful 2008 campaign and the White House. His top two advisers are former White House Chief of Staff Jim Messina and former White House senior adviser David Axelrod.
