Trump: GOP has a ‘death wish’
Donald Trump on Thursday accused the Republican party of having a “death wish” because of Rep. Paul Ryan’s proposed reforms to Medicare.
Trump made the statement in a new video released Thursday in
which the real estate mogul explained why he was not running for president. He
mentioned Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget, which includes the Medicare proposal, as a
reason.
“It almost seems as though the Republicans have a death wish,” Trump said.
“When they tamper with Medicare —which happens to be a good program, but there’s lots of fraud and waste which we should take care of — but when they tamper with Medicare, they have a death wish,” Trump said.
Trump had previously said the plan was why Democratic Rep. Kathy Hochul won New York's 26th House district special election last month.
Trump said the GOP’s direction was a reason why he decided against running for president. He complained Republicans failed to take full advantage of their House majority.
“They had a lame-duck session in Congress and the Republicans gave a new lease on life to Obama,” the real estate mogul said in the video. “They made an agreement with him, it was absolutely ridiculous what they did. And he was resurrected. He became the phoenix. It was like he became a new man.”
He described Ryan’s plan as a second reason why he is not running for the GOP presidential nomination.
“The timing of this plan was so bad. I happened to think the concept of this plan was bad also,” Trump said.
Trump also predicted that the Republicans would lose their majority in the House.
Near the end of the video Trump warned that he would take action if the wrong person wins the Republican nomination.
“I am watching very carefully. If the wrong person is nominated you watch what happens with Donald Trump and what he does because we have to beat Obama,” Trump said. “This country cannot last any longer with Obama as our president.”
In mid May, Trump announced that he would not run for president. His flirtation with a White House bid for a time had him sitting at the top of polls. He maintained in his assertions that he could win both the primary and general election.
