House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), slamming embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-N.Y.)  “bizarre” and “unacceptable” behavior, indicated Sunday that he hopes Weiner will decide to resign.

Amid calls by several top Democrats for Weiner’s ouster for sending explicitly sexual messages to women on the Internet, Hoyer said "I don’t see how he can proceed and effectively represent his constituency."

“I don’t see how he can, and I hope he would make that judgment,” Hoyer said on the CBS program Face the Nation.

Weiner has resisted calls to quit.

He said through a spokeswoman Saturday that he is seeking “professional treatment” and would request a short leave of absence from the House.
