The Thursday meeting comes as Vice President Biden's bipartisan committee, charged with compromising on a deficit-reduction plan, continues to meet this week. The Biden group hopes to reach a deal before July 1, one month before Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner projects the country will reach its borrowing limit. The group hopes to reach a compromise before July so it can move the package through Congress ahead of the debt-limit deadline.
The meeting's announcement came on the same day that Senate Democrats called for including stimulus measures like a payroll tax deduction in any agreement the Biden commission reaches.
"As part of deficit reduction, we can have job creation embedded as part of the deficit-reduction package. That’s what we are asking today,” Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.) said Wednesday.
