Vice President Biden will appear at a Democratic fundraiser Monday evening, though President Obama canceled his scheduled appearances in order to focus on the debt crisis.

Biden's office said he'll attend a Democratic National Committee event Monday night in downtown Washington, D.C.

That follows a move by the White House to cancel the president's scheduled appearances at two events in D.C. this evening. Obama's schedule for Monday included no mention of those events.

Biden isn't taking Obama's place at the fundraiser, according to a campaign official; his appearance was separately scheduled from the president's.

Both the president and vice president have been active participants in negotiations to raise the nation's debt limit, with both attending numerous meetings with congressional leadership at the White House over the past couple of weeks.
