Texas Dem congressman wants to be lead anti-Perry voice

Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) is positioning himself as the top Democratic voice against Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) burgeoning presidential campaign.

Doggett's congressional campaign has been circulating a video of him speaking last weekend at the state capitol in Texas, where he warned voters not to "let Rick Perry mess with you the way he messed with Texas!"

It's somewhat unusual for a lone congressman to position himself as the opposing voice of a presidential candidacy, especially one poised to make as big of a splash in the field as Perry's entry will likely make. No elements of the national party infrastructure have really promoted Doggett's attacks against Perry.

"Don’t you think somebody needs to introduce James Richard Perry to America?" the congressman asked last week in Austin. “I’m your guy. Gov. Perry and I go way back.”
