Obama hits bookstore, golf course on Martha's Vineyard vacation
President Obama began his vacation on Martha's Vineyard Friday with a visit to a local bookstore the Associated Press reports.
The president was accompanied by his daughters, Malia and Sasha. Obama said one of his daughters had a school assignment. Leaving the store he was seen holding five or six books including Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
Republicans have criticized Obama for traveling to Martha's Vineyard in the midst of a slumping economy and high unemployment.
To counter the criticism, the White House has said that the president will receive daily briefings from his advisers. Earlier Friday the administration released a photo of the president receiving a national security briefing from John Brennan, his top counterterrorism adviser.
