Manley will be a senior director in both the firm's communications and government affairs groups. He will work alongside John Feehery, the firm's communications director who worked for former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.).

Manley spent six years working for Reid and was a familiar face to several Capitol Hill reporters. Before that, he spent nearly 12 years as press secretary to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and at the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Manley also was a press aide for former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-Maine).

"Jim’s hire is a major coup for QGA Public Affairs,” said Feehery in a statement. “Jim and I have had our fair share of political disagreements over the years, but through it all, we have developed mutual respect and a good friendship. He will add an extra dimension of insight and experience for our clients and I am certain he will be a very successful addition to our already deep bench.

Jack Quinn, chairman of the firm, said Manley was "a star."
