Rumsfeld fundraising for Rep. West

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld will be fundraising for Tea Party freshman Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) next week in Washington D.C.

Rumsfeld will be the featured guest at a $500-per-plate breakfast on Oct. 27, according to an invitation from West’s campaign obtained by the Sunlight Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes government transparency. The charge for political action committees is $1,000.

The breakfast will be hosted by the lobbying firm Van Scoyoc Associates and held at the firm’s headquarters in Washington.

Rumsfeld and West know each other from their days in the military, according to The Huffington Post.

West has become a polarizing political figure due to his outspoken style and the past summer’s confrontation with Democratic National Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), but is beloved by many of the national Tea Party groups. West raised almost $2 million in the last quarter, a staggering sum for a House reelection race.
