Perry and Santorum going pheasant hunting with Rep. Steve King in Iowa

GOP presidential hopefuls Rick Perry and Rick Santorum will join Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on a pheasant hunting trip this weekend in Iowa, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.

The trio will be at the Loess Hills Hunting Preserve for the annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt, which is hosted by King. Perry will hunt with the congressman on Saturday, while Santorum will join him on Sunday, according to the candidates' campaign schedules.

Perry and Santorum, who will be looking to bolster their conservative bona fides on the weekend campaign swings through the early voting state, would score a major coup by landing the endorsement of the influential Republican congressman. King is good friends with another Republican candidate, Michele Bachmann, but has held off on making an endorsement.

King also told the Register he would be using his “trusty old shotgun,” not his semiautomatic Desert Eagle handgun, for the hunt. Last year King had a run-in with the Humane Society for using the Desert Eagle to kill a raccoon on his Iowa property.
