Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) is joining Fox News as a contributor.
On Friday The New York Times reported and a Fox spokesperson confirmed that Sanford, once considered a potential top tier presidential candidate, left office amidst a scandal in 2009 involving taking trips to see his mistress in Argentina. Sanford's office initially tried to cover up the trips by saying he was off hiking along the Appalachian Trail.
As evidence mounted that this was not the case, Sanford eventually admitted that he was not hiking the trails and resigned as chairman of the Republican Governor's Association.
Soon after admitting to the affair, Sanford's wife, Jenny Sanford, divorced him.
Sanford will serve as a paid contributor for Fox News Channel.
