Bush, 88, had been in the hospital since Monday with a respiratory condition. Local news reports said Friday that Bush, the wife of former President George H.W. Bush, was ready to return home, but that doctors were being extra cautious before releasing her.

President Obama and former President Clinton both sent their best wishes to the former first lady this week, something that George H.W. Bush thanked them for on Twitter.

Barbara Bush will now be home in time for her 69th wedding anniversary on Monday.
