President Obama called a U.S. Army soldier and Seattle Seahawks fan serving in Afghanistan to congratulate him on his team’s victory in the Super Bowl.

“He was checking up on us, thanking us for what we’ve done,” Sgt. Christopher Hogan told NBC News. “It’s nice to have something special happen to you when you deploy. This is definitely one of the funnest days I’ve had since I’ve been in Kandahar.”

Hogan joked the call was especially appreciated because Broncos fans within the regiment outnumbered Seahawks fans. The soldiers had to wake up before 4 a.m. to watch the blowout contest, in which Seattle destroyed Denver, 43-8.

Before the game, Obama incorrectly predicted a close contest between the two teams.

"I can't make a prediction, I don't know,” Obama told Fox News. “These guys are too evenly matched. I think it's gonna be 24-21, but I don't know who's gonna be 24 and who's gonna be 21."
