Santorum to get big endorsement in Iowa

Rick Santorum will be endorsed by Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz on Friday, according to sources close to Santorum's campaign.
The former Pennsylvania senator will receive Schultz's nod at what the campaign is touting as a "major campaign announcement."
The endorsement is a welcome get for Santorum — and a big one for his campaign. It suggests his dogged focus on performing well in the coveted early caucus state is paying off. The announcement came the same day that Santorum touted a number of other Iowa endorsement and backers. Among that list is Jim Gibbons, the former head wrestling coach at Iowa State University, which a Santorum campaign official said is playing particularly well among Iowa voters.
Santorum has banked his presidential campaign on doing well in Iowa but he has trailed in both Iowa polls and national polls. Unlike some of his GOP rivals, he has not yet had his moment on top of the polls or captured a lot of media attention.
He is scheduled to spend the entire week in Iowa. The caucuses are Jan. 3.
