"If you look at his qualifications, if you look at what he's done, of the people standing up on that stage offering themselves to be president, he's far and away the most qualified person of the Republicans to be the president," he said. "I know my party's going to nominate him, and when they do, I know the president's going to be in for a fight."

Christie, who considered a presidential bid himself earlier in the year, denied having "a moment of regret" since opting against throwing his hat in the ring.

"I've not had a moment of regret. Not even a pang of regret," he said.

He also scoffed when he heard what Sarah Palin told Fox Business Network on Monday night: "It’s not too late for folks to jump in. Who knows what will happen in the future?"

"It's too late," Christie said. The first vote of the 2012 cycle is in Iowa on Jan. 3.
