Santorum receives endorsement from Catholic advocacy group

Rick Santorum received the support of a major Catholic organization on Thursday.

CatholicVote.org — which brands itself "a leading national grassroots Catholic advocacy organization" — posted its endorsement of Santorum's presidential bid on its website.

"Rick Santorum represents our best hope to rally the nation behind a unified moral and economic vision that Americans are clamoring for in a president," the endorsement reads. "CatholicVote.org is proud to stand with Rick Santorum, and is prepared to mobilize our rapidly growing grassroots network to help secure him the GOP nomination, and ultimately win the White House."

The endorsement comes the same week Santorum enjoyed a near-win in the Iowa caucus, virtually tying for first place with Mitt Romney, who ended the night just eight votes ahead.

Santorum, a Catholic himself, has angled himself the ideal conservative candidate in the Republican primary and highlighted his conservative stances on social issues, in addition to fiscal conservatism.

"Catholic voters are looking for a candidate who can successfully combine the principles of the dignity of life and the dignity of work," CatholicVote.org continued. "Sen. Santorum understands better than any other candidate the profound link between the moral, cultural and economic principles foundational to the success of America."
