Pennsylvania Rep. Barletta is second lawmaker to endorse Santorum

Rick Santorum received his second endorsement from a sitting congressman on Thursday.

Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) endorsed Santorum for president.

"Rick Santorum has been a good friend of mine for many years," Barletta said in a statement. "He was always supportive, especially when I was mayor of Hazleton and during my campaigns. He is a great leader and an incredibly hard worker."

Santorum praised Barletta's record on fighting illegal immigration.

"I am honored to receive Lou's endorsement today," Santorum said in a statement.  "Lou has been a national leader on fighting illegal immigration and has been a fighter for the people of northeastern Pennsylvania in Congress."

Santorum's campaign is trying to shake off a disappointing showing in the New Hampshire primary and go for a repeat in South Carolina of his showing in the Iowa caucuses, where he finished second to Mitt Romney by only eight votes.

Santorum's campaign had been hinting in recent days that it would be announcing a number of endorsements and surrogate backers.

Santorum's campaign is planning on spending $1.5 million in advertising in South Carolina and a pro-Santorum super-PAC, the Red, White And Blue Fund reportedly plans on spending a total of $800,000 in the Palmetto State.
