"We're going forward," said Santorum, who called the race "transformed" after Thursday's events.
Rick Santorum on Friday said his presidential campaign would move forward regardless of the result in the South Carolina primary.
Santorum, who was declared the winner of the Iowa caucuses on Thursday after a recalibration of votes, suggested there was no minimum performance he had to meet in the South Carolina primary to continue on to Florida and later primary states.
"We're going forward," Santorum said Friday on C-SPAN. "This race has just transformed itself in the last 24 hours and I'm not too sure whether that will shake out and show by Saturday, but I've already won one of the two primaries. I feel very very good the momentum that we have across the country."
Polls suggest Santorum is trailing all of the other candidates in South Carolina and could come in last. A recent NBC News/Marist poll in South Carolina found Mitt Romney with 34 percent followed by Newt Gingrich at 24 percent, Ron Paul at 16 percent and Santorum at 14 percent.
Santorum said his campaign was confident that it could compete in Florida, the next Republican primary, scheduled for Jan. 31.
"We feel very good that we can go down there and be very competitive. And frankly, beyond that," the former Pennsylvania senator said. "People, now that this race is narrowed, are starting to rally around us. We're starting to get the funding that is necessary to compete in the long term. We're starting to staff up across the country so we feel like this is a race that we can and will be successful in and we're going to go on, not just after South Carolina but beyond."
