First lady Michelle Obama jokes that "every day other than Mother's Day is Father's Day," President Obama told an audience at his energy speech Friday in Silicon Valley.
Obama opened his speech at a Bay Area Wal-Mart by saying he needed to head back to Washington because Sunday was Mother's Day.
"That is a public service announcement. Do not forget — it's Mother's Day," Obama said.
"I told Michelle one time, I said, 'How come people put so much emphasis on Mother's Day and Father's Day not so much?' " Obama continued. "She said, 'Every day other than Mother's Day is Father's Day.' "
He added that the first lady's retort "kind of quieted me down."
Last year, the first lady told the "Today Show" about her ideal Mother's Day.
“I mean, like any mother, I get to sleep in, or for me, it's wake up when I feel like it,” the first lady said.
Last Mother's Day, the first lady fit in a workout, time with her mother, Marian Robinson — who lives with the first family — and getting to choose what's for dinner.
“My mom and I pick our meal. So we decide what we want to eat that day. So it's our choice,” the first lady said.
