Scott Walker has friendly chat with Obama at Wis. airport
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and President Obama had an amicable meeting on the tarmac in Milwaukee, even though Walker decided to skip a local factory tour with the president.
Walker was scheduled to tour a Master Lock factory with Obama on Wednesday but canceled because, his office said, the governor was battling a stomach flu. Walker, who gained national attention in 2011 for pushing a controversial bill rolling back union bargaining rights for state employees, still met Obama at General Mitchell International Airport.
The two talked for half a minute in what appeared to be a friendly exchange. Walker gave the president a Milwaukee Brewers baseball jersey with number 1 and Obama on the back.
Walker said the meeting had nothing to do with politics.
"If it was politics, I wouldn't have greeted him here," Walker said according to pool reports. "Today's the president's day. I'm appreciative he's in Wisconsin, appreciative he's focused on manufacturing. We'll leave politics for another day."
In January, President Obama had a what appeared to be a tense meeting with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) on a tarmac in Arizona. The exchange was reportedly related to Brewer's account of a meeting with Obama in her book, "Scorpions for Breakfast."
