Report: Donor who contributed $50K to reelect Obama accused of fraud
A New York donor that gave $50,000 to reelect President Obama has been accused of fraud, according to an Associated Press report.
Abake Assongba and her husband donated tens of thousands of dollars to help the efforts to reelect the president through a joint fundraising committee and other avenues. Meanwhile, Assongba is accused in Florida of stealing more than $650,000 to build a home, the AP stated.
The Obama campaign declined to comment to the news agency but told The Washington Post that more than 1.3 million people have donated to the campaign and it would handle individual situations.
Assongba’s husband, Anothy DeRosa, denied the charges against his wife to the AP, but he did not further comment citing the ongoing court case. The couple heads the Abake Foundation, a charity in New York that supports education for children.
