Ann Romney: Trail is grinding, but free Wi-Fi helps

By Justin Sink - 04/11/12 04:17 PM ET

The top thing Ann Romney looks for in a hotel while she and her husband, presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, criss-cross the nation? Free Wi-Fi.

Romney's wife talked about life on the road with former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on his new radio show.

"It's so convenient just to be able to get your Internet," Ann Romney said. "I personally like Hampton Inn, but that's an aside."

Romney's comments came a day after Gawker released unaired footage of Fox News host Sean Hannity and Romney chatting candidly before an interview in Las Vegas.

Hannity asks Romney if he stayed in the hotel where they were filming the spot.

"We were in the Renaissance. It's off the strip, lower price," Romney says.

Hannity asks if the candidate chose that hotel to avoid scrutiny, likely because of the Romney campaign's sensitivity towards the former governor's personal wealth.

"It's not the scrutiny," Romney responds. "You can either spend the money on ads or spend the money on hotel rooms. I'd rather spend it on ads."

In the same footage, Romney discusses that the trail is sometimes difficult on him and his family — especially Ann, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. In her interview with Huckabee, Anne Romney admitted that the schedule can be grinding.

"It is tiring, and then you do it and then you get up and do the same thing the next day. And then you get up and do it the next day," she said. "It just goes on and on and on."

She went on to joke that her "clothes aren't looking so great" after weeks of living out of a suitcase.

But the would-be first lady said that her campaign schedule has some perks, including meeting new people and visiting new places.

"You make new friends. I mean, you see parts of the country you would never see otherwise. So there is the good and bad that comes with it, and I always like to remind myself what an extraordinary experience it is," she said. "It is not easy, no, but it is definitely worth it."
