Ann Romney appreciates First Lady Michelle Obama’s “composure” and ability to keep “calm.”
Romney, who hopes to be first lady herself by this time next year as the wife of presumed GOP nominee Mitt Romney, called Michelle Obama “lovely” in an interview set to air on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” Friday.
“Everyone can appreciate it is a very difficult position to be in, where your husband's under enormous scrutiny all the time and attacks from one side or the other,” she said.
Romney has similarly complimented Michelle Obama in previous interviews, noting that she has met the first lady briefly but has never met her husband, the president.
Ann Romney also speculated on the type of first lady she might be if her husband wins the White House in November, noting, “Every first lady brings her own personality to the White House.”
“Having had breast cancer I'm sure I'll be involved in breast cancer awareness,” she said. “Having had Multiple Sclerosis I'm sure, and I know for sure I'll be working trying to promote research but beyond that I also have worked for many years with at risk youth so I know I'll never be able to give that up either.”
Of course, the big topic under debate by Romney’s presidential campaign right now is his future vice presidential pick.
Romney was quick to note that she is not her husband’s advisor when it comes to his vice presidential decision, but admitted that it is “always fun to talk about” it. She did not name names of anyone under discussion, but has previously praised the “wonderful” field of possibilities.
When Fox News’s Martha MacCallum asked, in a question that apparently assumed Romney’s running mate would be male, whether she hoped the future vice presidential nominee would have a wife she gets along with, Romney simply said “that would be a plus.”
