Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has kept his campaign promises unlike President Obama.
Speaking on CBS’s Face The Nation, Priebus said the difference between Walker, who is facing a recall election this Tuesday, and Obama is “pretty stark.”
“Scott Walker is talking about his record. He’s talking about that the fact that his reforms are working, that people are getting back to work, that businesses are coming in,” Priebus said. “You can’t keep operating a government that spends more money than it takes in.”
Walker is facing off against Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) in his recall challenge. The Wisconsin governor become a national figure last year after he confronted unions by pushing through legislation that limited collective bargaining rights for public workers.
Walker’s campaign has argued that the governor created jobs in the state and that he was right to take tough action against public workers. The RNC chairman said the president can’t talk about his record like Walker can.
“Scott Walker is one of those special people that has made promises and kept promises,” Priebus said. “[Obama's] a president who is in love with the sound of his own voice but who hasn’t been able to follow through on too many promises.”
The recall race has been the focus of national attention, with Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) calling it a “dry run” for the November election.
Former President Bill Clinton campaigned for Barrett on Friday but President Obama has kept his distance from the race, with polls showing Walker with a slight edge.
