“So you have my pledge regardless of what happens here today that we’re not done with trying to get it right at ATF,” Issa told Welch.

This is not the first time Issa has flirted with the idea of reorganizing the ATF. Last December, he told reporters at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast that he was interested in fixing the ATF, and perhaps merging it with the FBI.

“The ATF perhaps should be molded completely into the FBI and be done with it rather than this specialization,” said Issa.
“And there’s no reason you can’t have a special unit under the FBI. And it is a frustration that I’m getting close to saying, ‘You know, as the reform committee — organizational reform — we may have to do that.’ ”
