Minor-league soccer club to wear pro-Romney jerseys
An anonymous donor is looking to boost Mitt Romney's campaign in a unique way: paying to have the candidate's logo and slogan placed on the front of a minor-league soccer jersey.
FC New York, a minor league soccer team playing in Long Island, announced over the weekend that its new kits would feature Romney's name and the slogan "Believe in America." The jerseys will appear in pink and white and will carry the candidate's name for the remainder of the season.
According to a press release from the team, it was approached by an anonymous donor not linked to the Romney campaign who wanted to sponsor the placement. It's customary for soccer clubs to carry advertisements on their uniforms, unlike other major American sports.
The club's coach joked about the new sponsorship in the release provided by the team.
“I am glad we have a kit sponsor that people all over America recognize, but right now I am looking for a victory against Red Bull," coach Elvin Vasquez said. "I want to win as much as Mr. Romney does.”
