Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) issued a humored denial to rumors that he is considering running for office in 2013.

In response to recent speculation that Weiner — who resigned from Congress in 2011 after it was uncovered that he had been sending explicit pictures over of himself to women over Twitter — might run for mayor of New York in 2013, the former liberal New York congressman shot down the rumors as false.

"It's a clown story, bro," Weiner said in an email, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Weiner's exact response is similar to one made in June by Washington Nationals baseball player Bryce Harper, who called a question he was asked "a clown question."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) riffed on the answer when responding to a reporter's question in mid-June.

Besides reports that Weiner was considering a comeback to politics, New York news outlets have also reported that Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, had been urging him to sit down for a wide-ranging interview to disassociate himself from the scandal.
