Former Vice President Al Gore warned of the dangers of the "extremist fringe" of the Republican Party winning control of Congress and the White House.
Gore's warnings came in a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising email sent out Monday.
"The last thing we want is the Republican Party — a party that’s been hijacked by an extremist fringe — to win the White House and tighten its grip on Congress," Gore writes. "That would spell disaster for our economy and our environment."
"Karl Rove and the ultra-conservative Koch brothers are pouring millions of dollars into this campaign," Gore continued. "Democrats are depending on the individual support we get from people like you."
Gore's former running mate —former President Clinton- is also getting involved in the upcoming 2012 elections. Clinton will formally renominate President Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., in September.

Gore specifically mentions former Karl Rove, who served as adviser to former President George W. Bush and is co-founder of pro-GOP super-PAC American Crossroads, and billionaires David H. and Charles G. Koch — favorite targets of Democrats.

"I am fully committed to doing everything I can to make sure we win a Democratic majority to partner with President Obama. I hope I can count on you. Please join me," Gore concludes in the email.
