Romney to rally with GOP governors, including top VP candidates
Mitt Romney will have a chance to rally with some of the likely finalists for his vice presidential selection at a star-studded rally Thursday in Colorado coinciding with a national meeting of the Republican Governors Association.
The presumptive GOP nominee will be joined by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at a rally at a high school in Basalt, Colo. — each rumored as a potential addition to the Republican ticket.
Other attendees at the rally will include Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Earlier in the day, Romney will hold an event at the Jeffco Fairgrounds in Golden, Colo.
The Romney campaign has not said whether the former governor plans to meet with the victims or police involved in the movie theater shooting last month in nearby Aurora, Colo., although a spokesman for the Aurora police said earlier this week that she had not heard of plans for the presidential hopeful to meet with either. Thursday will be Romney's first visit to then state since the shootings.
President Obama visited privately with victims' families last month. The president's reelection team announced Thursday that Obama plans a two-day tour of the swing state next week, including stops in Denver and Grand Junction on Wednesday and events in Pueblo and Colorado Springs next Thursday.
