Obama orders flags be flown at half-staff in response to Wisconsin shooting
President Obama on Monday ordered U.S. flags be flown at half-staff in response to the shootings at a Sikh temple a day earlier.
Obama's proclamation is in recognition of the victims of a shooting rampage at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., on Sunday. Six people died and three others were wounded as a result of the shooting.
Flags will be flown at half-mast until Friday, per Obama's proclamation.
"As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 5, 2012, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 10, 2012," Obama wrote in the proclamation.
"I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations."
On Monday authorities identified the suspected shooter as Wade Michael Page, an Army veteran. Police shot and killed Page during the shooting rampage.
Law enforcement officials have been handling the case as a domestic terrorism attack.
