Mitt Romney 'appalled' by Family Research Council shooting
Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he is “appalled” by the shooting at the Family Research Council building in Washington, D.C.
"I am appalled by the shooting today at the offices of the Family Research Council in our nation's capital,” he said in a statement to The Hill. “There is no place for such violence in our society. My prayers go out to the wounded security guard and his family, as well as all the people at the Family Research Council whose sense of security has been shattered by today's horrific events."
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee, along with newly minted running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), is set to participate in the Christian organization’s Values Voter Summit next month.
The FRC takes strong political positions on socially conservative issues, including abortion rights and gay marriage. The summit is a forum for the candidates to address conservatives voting on issues of religious liberty.
FRC President Tony Perkins applauded Romney’s choice of Ryan as a running mate.
