RNC releases new Web video attacking Obama on passing $16 trillion benchmark
The Republican National Committee quickly pounced on the United States surpassing the $16 trillion debt mark with a new Web video attacking President Obama.
The video, "16 Trillion," released Tuesday, features clips of Obama on the campaign trail "pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end" of 2012.
"By his own measurement, President Obama has failed" a slide in the Web video reads.
The ad was released shortly after the Treasury Department announced that the national debt had surpassed $16,000,000,000,000.00.
"The past four years Barack Obama hasn't offered any serious solutions to get our spending under control," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement accompanying the video.
The deficit has been a common attack line for Republicans, and the RNC wasn't the only one to quickly blame Obama for passing the $16 trillion benchmark.
"If President Obama believes that Americans are better off than we were four years ago, he clearly hasn’t read the facts," Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
