Van Hollen added that they have not yet actually started practice yet, although he's "had a meeting with the vice president."

"We'll kick into higher gear in a little bit," Van Hollen said.

In response to a question of who Van Hollen thought would play Biden in Ryan's debate prep, Van Hollen said he wasn't "going there."

The vice presidential debate is set for Oct. 11 at Centre College located in Danville, Ky.
