Obama congratulates Nationals on clinching berth
President Obama on Friday congratulated the Washington Nationals on clinching a playoff berth.
"I want to congratulate the Washington Nationals for bringing playoff baseball to D.C.," Obama said at a campaign speech in Woodbrigde, Va., on Friday. "You guys are looking good."
Obama, noting his hometown Chicago White Sox are leading their division by two games, said he looked forward to a Windy City-D.C. World Series.
"I am looking forward to a White Sox-Nationals World Series. It’s going to happen. White Sox are still in first place," Obama continued. "But I've got to admit, you guys are looking a little better right now. You guys are looking very good."
The Nationals secured a spot in the playoffs with a win Thursday night. The White Sox currently lead the American League Central.
Obama has never shied away from expressing his support for the Southside baseball team. Earlier in the summer he personally called pitcher Phil Humber after the White Sox hurler threw a perfect game. In 2009, Obama did the same for then-White Sox starter Mark Buehrle after Buerhle threw a perfect game.
