Vice President Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, cast their ballots early Tuesday morning.
The Bidens voted at 7 a.m. at a polling station at Alexis I. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Del., accompanied by their granddaughter Natalie, son Del. Attorney General Beau Biden and Hallie Biden, according to a White House pool report.
Speaking to reporters after he left the polling spot, Biden was asked if it was the last time he would vote for himself.
"No, I don’t think so,” he joked.
Biden has not said if he will run in 2016, but has refused to close the door on seeking the highest office.
The Bidens were at the polling center for 11 minutes. Before voting, the vice president spoke with other voters waiting in line and poll workers apologized to the vice president for having him wait. A fellow voter joked that she had “offered him my spot.”
After casting his ballot, Biden waited with his family members, who were still in line. He spoke to his granddaughter, reminding her that he was on the ballot, according to the pool report.
“I’m not supposed to be campaigning,” Biden joked.
Speaking with reporters after leaving the polling station, Biden was asked if the vote was an emotional moment, coming 40 years after he first ran for Senate.
"I tell you what, you know, every time I do it — this is the eighth time that I've run statewide in the state of Delaware. It's always a kick, it really is, to see people out here,” said Biden. “I hope everybody exercises their right to vote. It's a great honor. And people who are standing in line in a lot of places, I encourage you to stand in line as long as you have to."
President Obama voted early in October in his home state of Illinois and Mitt Romney is scheduled to vote in Belmont, Mass., on Tuesday morning.
Later Tuesday morning, Biden's son tweeted that he voted for his father and President Obama.
