Report: Romney planned celebratory fireworks in Boston Harbor
Mitt Romney had planned an eight-minute celebratory fireworks show in Boston Harbor had he won the presidential election.
According to a report in the Boston Globe, the Republican presidential candidate had commissioned a local pyrotechnics firm to launch fireworks from a barge in the harbor that would have been visible from his Election Night party at the Boston Convention Center.
A permit filed with the city would have allowed the detonation any time between 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Most networks called the election around 10:30 p.m. for President Obama, and Romney gave his concession speech at just before 1:00 a.m.
On Wednesday, Romney hosted a breakfast for top campaign donors and later gave a farewell address to staff at the campaign's Boston headquarters. His wife, Ann, also addressed the staff and thanked them for their work.
