Virginia Dem Chairman Moran stepping down
Virginia Democratic Party Chairman Brian Moran is stepping down.
"Being the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia over these past two years has been one of the great honors of my life," Moran said in a statement announcing his resignation on Wednesday. "I am proud to have led a party that played a substantial role in the statewide effort to reelect President Barack Obama and send Tim Kaine to the United States Senate, and laid the foundation to continue our momentum and elect our candidates in 2013 and beyond."
Moran's resignation is effective at the next Democratic State Central meeting on Dec. 8th in Williamsburg. The Virginia Democratic Party will elect a successor to Moran at that meeting.
Moran comes from a family of Virginia Democrats. He is the brother of Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) and the uncle of Patrick Moran, who resigned from his father's reelection campaign after video footage was released that appeared to show Patrick Moran talking about ways to get around voter identification laws. In late October, shortly after the video was released, police began a criminal investigation of Patrick Moran.
