Rick Perry to announce 'future plans' in July
Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday that he will "make an announcement about my future political plans" in July, according to a report by the Rio Grande Guardian.
Perry, a three-term governor, could announce plans to seek a fourth term in 2014. But there's also a chance that Perry might be preparing another run for the White House, after a series of lackluster debate performances derailed his 2012 bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Asked about another presidential run during an interview with a Dallas CBS affiliate earlier this year, Perry said he was "certainly going to give it a good examination."
Perry also said he would give another bid for governor "the appropriate consideration."
"My instincts are very positive towards it right now, but we’ll wait until after the legislative session to make that announcement," Perry said.
In October, Perry's legislative director told students at the University of Texas that Perry had decided to run for reelection; the statement was later walked back by the governor.
